We need to talk about feet, for a change. They carry us day in, day out, but don't get the love they deserve. Foot care is underrated. High time to give short shrift to persistent myths about foot health.
Misconception 1: Foot pain is part of getting older
No. Just no.
Chronic pain in your feet is not part of the ageing process but a signal. A red blinking light that says: "Dear owner, something is wrong."
Fact check:
- According to podiatrists, pain often stems from tendon plate irritation (hello, plantar fasciitis), poor circulation or incorrect footwear.
- Older feet need more care, but pain is never normal.
What can you do?
Start with gentle, daily care: use a product like the HFL Solution Spray to cleanse excess skin without irritating it. Then lubricate with a nourishing oil such as Roselan Balm, this one absorbs quickly, does not stick and hydrates deeply.
Misconception 2: Only athletes get nail fungus or calluses
If that were true, the average office worker would be walking around with a baby's feet. Alas: fungal nails, calluses, chaps and dry skin do not discriminate.
Fact check:
- Everyone is at risk, even with neat shoes and clean socks.
- The combination of moisture, heat and friction makes feet vulnerable to fungal growth.
What can you do?
Use the FungiCheck self-test if you suspect you suffer from nail fungus. Within 10 minutes, you'll know. Positive? Then there's your ally: FungiSmart, the smart mould remover with microbiological character. No chemicals, no side effects, but results.
Misconception 3: Cut a V in your nail to prevent ingrowns
Ever heard of wishful thinking in the form of nail clippers?
The idea that a notched V's "redirects" nail growth is pure fiction. A bit like digging a pit to stop the rain.
Fact check:
- Ingrown nails are often caused by improper cutting, pressure from shoes or genetic nail shape.
- That V does not matter, in fact, you make your nail weaker and more prone to cracking.
What can you do?
Always cut straight off, file the sides smooth. Notice any redness or pressure? Cleanse with Solution spray + lubricate with Dermoleen Cream For softening, prevents worse.
Misconception 4: Running barefoot is always healthier for your feet
It sounds nice and back to basics. And yes: walking barefoot briefly on grass or sand can be good for your balance. But.
Fact check:
- Walking around the house or streets without support or protection leads to overexertion for many people.
- High-risk groups such as people with diabetes, neuropathy or circulatory problems may not notice wounds in time.
What can you do?
Combine Roselan Balm + Dermoleen Cream, one nourishes, the other soothes. Choose soft, supportive slippers with non-slip soles indoors and pamper your feet with a restorative treatment in the evening.
Misconception 5: You just have to cut away calluses yourself
There are two types of people: those who cut their own calluses, and those with toes.
Cutting away calluses yourself is tricky. Your skin makes calluses for a reason, it is a reaction to pressure or friction. If you remove it too aggressively, you will get wounds. Or worse: infections.
Fact check:
- Especially in high-risk groups (diabetes, the elderly), self-cutting can lead to serious skin problems.
- Regular filing + targeted grooming works much safer.
What can you do?
Use a mild callus softener such as Dermoleen Cream 2x a week. Combine with a soft foot file, always use on dry skin. Extra dry or cracked? Dermazinc is your lifesaver: cares, restores and protects.
Additional misunderstandings that won't do your feet any good:
"Foot cream is only something for women." Nope, skin is skin. And dry heels are gender neutral.
"Nail polish chokes your nails." Not if you use a solid base and let it breathe from time to time.
"Hard shoes are always better." As long as they offer support and suit your running style, fine. But hard is not necessarily good.
In conclusion: feet need attention
Put your feet in the spotlight. Give them the attention they deserve. Because once your feet feel better, you will walk with more ease, more confidence and a better mood.
